Have you noticed that your traffic/readership/commenting interaction has picked up since the switch?
Honestly, no. Most of the comments that I receive are from Yakezie members, meaning that the increase in comments are not necessarily a factor of which blogging platform one uses.
However, I forget whose blog it was (it's hard to keep up), but they recently posted here in the forums saying that their article was featured on Wordpress's front page. He also went on to say that he believes it was done so because of the tags that he was using. Obviously this had brought the blogger increased page hits.
My decision was purely one based on aesthetics and functionality.
There are bloggers who have been blogging on blogspot or wordpress.com for years and have no problem drawing attention or marketing their product (try http://www.bubbleheads.blogspot.com) . I don't think that advertisers would turn you down if you were on blogger, but had 10,000 monthly readers.
Overall, it just takes a little bit more hard work to add plugins and features to blogger, but it can be done through hacks and hours of google searches.
In other words, I'm paying for the convenience.
One last thing, I would be remissed if I didn't say that if there are any plans for you to sell things on your site in the future (as opposed to having your buyers click a link and purchase from an external site) you will need the security requirements of hosted servers.
